The StepNote 1 is a high performance step up transformer designed to give the best performance possible at a very reasonable price and is perfect for entry level to mid market moving coil cartridges. High quality materials are used throughout including a non ferrous (aluminium) case and silver plated connectors. The transformer is a 1:12.5 design which will give just under 22dB of gain and is made in the UK to our sepcification.

The Audio Note range of transformers is very wide, with 6 basic ranges available which differ in terms of wiring and core materials, each with different impedance versions available making a total of 19 models in all.
However choosing the one that’s right for you needn’t be too difficult, we can advise as to the right gain and impedance required for your system.


The Music First Audio Classic Copper Step up is an ultra high performance transformer with variable ratio and load.
Five switchable 'dummy' loads can be chosen from 10K to 80K (plus open circuit) via one of the front mounted rotary controls. The step up ratio can also switched between +14,+20 & +26dB enabling the transformer to work in a very wide range of systems and still offer optimum performance.

This step up is identical to the model featured above but features pure silver wire inside the transformers instead of Copper. The increased price not only reflects the substantial cost of so much silver wire but also the time taken to build it, as due to the thinness of the silver it takes many more hours to build. Because of this please expect a reasonable delay whilst it is made to order for you. However the wait is well worthwhile, as it provides even greater subtlety, image depth and transparency over the copper wired version.
