The Maia 3 is the latest version of Rega’s entry power amplifier which has a great blend of power (85 watts) and sound quality for the money. Unsurprisingly all of the basic ingredients used are high quality such as the twin toroidal transformers and the extruded aluminium case, which is available in either silver or black.

The Exon 3 shares the case as the rest of the Rega range (including the Maia 3 above) but is a much more potent version (125 watt) which has tremendous grip and control for all but the most difficult speakers.

The Usher Reference R1.5 is a very substantial transistor power amp which weighs an impressive 40 Kg. It produces a sound that is refreshingly free from the grain and smear normally associated with high power transistor amplifiers. This design is quite heavily biased into class A so it runs reasonably hot, but not excessively so and produces 150 watts per channel giving it the ability to drive pretty much any speaker you care to think of without strain.

The Silver Night is a delightful sounding amplifier, offering superb dynamics, speed and resolution without any sense of sterility. Its ability to drive a wide variety of speakers belies its 8 watt output, as it seems to have grip and control that other amplifiers in its class can’t match.
It uses a single 300B output valve per channel with zero feedback and uses a 6922 driver valve per channel. A volume control can be ordered as an option if a single source is to be used.
A MK2 version is also available for £2,250 which features improved components and silver wiring which reveals yet more extra detail and opens the sound up even further.

The SP-80C monoblocks use EL34 output valves in push pull configuration which produces 40 watts per channel making them suitable for all but the most inefficient loudspeakers, with a sound that is both pacy and detailed.
Their great looks combine with superb functionality as they offer remote control volume so users with one source can start without a pre amplifier, although to get the best from them a good preamp is still advisable. The volume setting is displayed on a discrete dot matrix display on the front panel

The Conqueror is a classic Audio Note design, which follows many of the criteria that they have always championed and as such reaches the exalted company of their level 3 classification.
This means it uses a Copper topped chassis and a zero feedback single ended 300B output stage which is driven via a paper in oil capacitor coupled 6SN7. The power supply uses choke smoothed valve rectification (a 5U4G).
The result is an amplifier that sounds tonally accurate with great dynamics and refinement which particularly excels with high efficiency speakers.
A low gain version is also now available for users of very high efficiency speakers, which uses a 6J5 instead of the 6SN7 driver valve and offers improved sound quality and lower noise.
