The Brio is a fantastic starting point for the audiophile on a budget. By removing unnecessary frills Rega have managed to make this British built amplifier sound much more expensive than it has any right to. It offers a very punchy and rhythmical presentation which makes it instantly involving to listen to with every kind of music.
Despite its low cost the design is not hampered by the compromises normally expected at this price, with an extruded aluminium case, a good sized toroidal transformer and an excellent MM phono stage included.

The Cyclone 1.2 is the next step up from the Brio, it offer remarkable value for money (particularly considering it’s hand made in the UK), sounding far more expensive than it has any right to. It comes with a remote control, is available in Black or Silver, and can be ordered with a high quality phono stage for an additional £50.

The Mira 3 builds upon the strengths of the Brio by adding power and additional refinement whilst also offering improved ergonomics - with a single rotary control which is used for both changing inputs and adjusting volume. Remote control is also an option, as Rega’s Solar remote control can be purchased for £36.

The Icon Stereo 40i offers superb performance at a very reasonable price. It combines a sound that’s both refined yet absorbing to listen to, with great dynamics and grip, and the ability to drive a very wide range of speakers. It produces 40 watts in Ultralinear mode from EL34 output valves and can be switched into triode where the power drops to approximately half this value, so can be set depending upon your preferences. It is also very compact in size and comes with an attractive valve cage.

There is also the option of an HT delay circuit for an extra £80 which extends the life of the output valves by ensuring they are more gradually brought up to temperature.

Other versions are also available, including a simplified version from just £700. It can also be ordered with KT66 or KT88 output valves, although our preference is for the standard pentode (EL34) valves as we normally find these the most musical.

The Cairn 100 is a refreshingly different design, the clean styling and bespoke display make this remote controlled 100 watt amplifier a joy to use. It has a sound that is potent when needed yet still fast without the grain so commonly heard on larger transistor amplification. If you have lower efficiency speakers then this amplifier should be high on your list to audition.

The Bewitch A30 is the result of collaboration between Days of Guangzhou Ltd (a transformer manufacturer with 20 years experience) and Guy Sergeant, a UK based audio engineer formerly of Audio Innovations, JPW and Heybrook.

Unusually at this price point the Bewitch is a pure class A design with two valve rectifiers and a choke smoothed power supply. It uses Electro Harmonix 6550 output valves in an ultra-linear push pull design producing 30 watt per channel (the output stage can also be switched to triode operation if preferred).

It features auto bias so there’s no need to make any adjustments when changing output valves and uses high quality parts including an Alps volume control and SCR coupling capacitors.

We feel this amplifiers sound redefines what’s possible at this price point and we’re convinced it will become the benchmark that others will be judged by.

The Cyber 10 uses a pair of 2A3 valves in push pull configuration per channel to produce 11 watts per channel. Not only does it have the midband magic that only directly heated triode amplifiers can reproduce but it also combines it with the functionality of remote control and a valve cage (not pictured).

It prefers fairly efficient speakers to work at its best, but we’d recommend any good design with sensitivity from 90dB and upwards.

It is also available with TJ Meshplate 2A3‘s (see picture below) for £1,595.

The Silver Night is our starting point for serious single ended integrated amplifiers. This line level design is a real purists delight, with no feedback and an output of 7 watts per channel it is ideally partnered with speakers of approximately 90dB sensitivity and upwards, although its much more potent than the power figure would suggest.
It uses one 300B directly heated triode output valve per channel driven by a 6922 input valve and has 5 line level inputs.
Don’t let its apparent low power put you off, it is not only exceptionally fast and potent sounding but also as open and airy as only a good single ended design can be.

The Mk2 version of the Silver Night is based on the standard version mentioned above but uses higher grade internal wiring (including silver wire in selected stages of the audio wiring) and even higher grade capacitors.
